The Angel Vista Trail isn’t so much a trail as it is a destination. The photos to the right show why. The Angel Vista Trail takes you to the highest point on the Los Robles Trail network. That means that the reward for making the trip is the views.
The trail is about 30 feet short of a tenth of a mile long. That is if you stop at the top of the hill. That is about where the official end of the trail is according to the COSCA map. The trail does continue on past the top of the hill on a fire break. Although there are no signs saying so, I believe this is private property, so I’ve chosen not to cover that section.
The Angel Vista Trail is a very easy trail. But don’t let the terrain rating to the left fool you. The terrain rating doesn’t tell you that you have to work pretty hard just to get to the Angel Vista Trail. The shortest route to Angel Vista is via the Rosewood Trail. The Rosewood Trail requires a nearly 800 foot climb. The next shortest route to Angel Vista is via the Los Robles Trail from the west by way of the Felton Trail. Not quite as much uphill, but a little more distance.
The recommended time to visit Angel Vista is in the morning on a clear day. That doesn’t just mean a sunny day, but a really clear day (e.g. low humidity, not only in Thousand Oaks, but also at the coast). The reward is incredible views of the ocean and the Channel Islands. The views of the surrounding mountains aren’t bad either.
Note that after a short distance you will reach a picnic table and bench. This is not the place where the best views are, but it is a good place to rest. For the best views you want to continue past the table and up the hill. The top of the hill is where the best views are. If you are up for the climb that you’ll have to make to get to the Angel Vista Trail, then you are in for a big treat.
