Chamber of Secrets - Celebration Cache

by Scott Legal

The invasion begins.
September 7, 2003: Team Dakiba and Ventura Kids put out an open invitation to join them as they each celebrated their 1000th find at the The Chamber of Secrets by The Edenites. A number of us decided to reach lesser, yet significant, milestones of our own. In addition to Team Dakiba and Ventura Kids 1000th find, Ruscal was on hand for his 1000th as well. We (slegal) celebrated our 500th, Trurokr and Narlsharls each celebrated their 400th, Faveral and AgouraCharger celebrated 250 and Brainerd celebrated 200. Today was certainly a day of milestones.

But what was most astounding to me was the turnout. We knew that most of the Conejo Cacher group would be there. We also heard others chime in that they planned to join in. But the turnout exceeded my expectations. The sleepy little parking area near the cache was filled.

Everyone made new friends today. We were all asking others, "Who's that?" and introducing ourselves to each each other. On hand was Team Dakiba (Dana and Kim), Ventura Kids (Steve and Sandy) along with Spiderdude, Ruscal, PJH, slegal (Scott, Linda, Jeff & Marissa), Trurokr, Narlsharls, Willithin, Baby Sparkle, AgouraCharger, Geo Jeff, Zombie Tribe, EMC of Northridge, CA, Brainerd, CoronaKid, MobileDave, Reece Man and Cachepal.

Our Group at the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets.
The cache itself was fun. It starts as a brain teaser, requiring you to decrypt a couple messages to determine where the cache is. Once we arrived, we faced a short steep descent down a ravine. My daughter Marissa took a tumble and got a hand full of nettles. Thanks to trurokr for coming armed with Tweasers and pulled them out. We entered a dark abyss, a flood control tunnel that ran under the road above, armed with many lights. Many got wet along the way. When we arrived on the other side, our group proved too large for all of us to exit the tunnel together. There was a substantial drop off just outside the tunnel. We hoisted a celebratory dixie cup of Martinelli's at the cache.

On the return trip, I put my hand right on a very sharp piece of rebar and required first aid. Marissa got a ride out on Trurokr's back and Jeff took a tumble and bruised his leg and tore his pants. The cache's terrain rating is well deserved. We did see a bat flying around inside the tunnel. Marissa had a much better trip up the ravine and when we all got back to the car, the aches and pains were quickly forgotten as we celebrated our success. Another great adventure for the Conejo Cachers and friends.
